Are you a young Ugandan interested in arts, culture, and the local creative industry? Are you interested in gaining insights and experience in the management and coordination of cultural events in a cultural institution in Kampala? Then it is you we are looking for!
GZK/UGCS was founded 20 years ago, with the major aim of strengthening & promoting the growth of bilateral co-operations between the people of Uganda and Germany. We carry out cultural activities and teach German as a foreign language.
Areas of Work
You will be working as a part-time intern in the cultural office of GZK/UGCS. Your main area of responsibility will be assisting in the planning, organization, coordination and execution of an Art and Sciences Festival for children, which will take place in May. Among other tasks, this includes establishing contacts with partners, public relations, outreach and audience building, social media and online communications (facebook, twitter, wordpress) and hands-on work before and during the festival.
Next to this main responsibility, you will get involved in the planning, coordination and execution of our regular cultural program, which includes, among others, film screenings, readings, theatre and spoken work performances.
We are looking for an intern based in Uganda, who is committed, hard-working, positive, open-minded, reflective and willing to learn. You should have at least completed your second year at university and should be fluent in English. Knowledge of German is not required. Most importantly you should be passionate about arts and culture, interested in the management of the arts and the cultural landscape of Uganda.
We are looking for an intern starting from March 5th to May 31st 2018. The internship is part-time, which is defined as 3 days per week/ 7h per day. The days and hours of work can be individually agreed upon.
What we offer
The internship is on a voluntary basis, and no payment is provided. However, we offer a small transport and lunch allowance. You will be provided with an equipped workplace (laptop, WiFi) and get the opportunity to work closely with an international team.
