Goethe Zentrum Kampala/Ugandan German Cultural Society (GZK/UGCS) is thrilled to announce the inaugural Kampala Writes Litfest, set to take place on the 7th and 8th of December 2024 at the Onomo Hotel in Kampala. This literary festival, the first of its kind in the city, has evolved from GZK’s longstanding tradition of hosting the annual Christmas Book Fair. Recognizing the growing demand for a more expansive platform to celebrate Ugandan literature, the Kampala Writes Litfest was born.
The festival aims to bring together a vibrant community of authors, readers, poets, and artists from across Uganda’s literary landscape to honor and celebrate Ugandan literature. Over the course of two dynamic days, attendees can look forward to an engaging lineup of workshops, panel discussions, dramatizations, storytelling sessions, and live performances, all designed to get a deeper insight for the written word.
Themed “Writing Our Truths: Commemorating Ugandan Literature,” the festival will explore a wide array of topics central to Uganda’s literary scene. Highlights include stimulating discussions on contemporary trends in literature, the art of crafting short stories, navigating the challenges of publishing, writing impactful memoirs, copyright issues, and strategies for cultivating a love for reading among young audiences.
