Ugandan Literature at our Christmas Book Fair
Home »
Our Christmas Book Fair is now in its third season with this years theme: Ugandan writing across genres. On Saturday 2nd December 2023 at 32 Degrees East, Kansanga, an independent non-profit organisation, focused on the creation and exploration of contemporary art in Uganda, we celebrated all kinds of Ugandan Literature
There were a variety of activities: panel discussions, book readings, music and poetry performances. The panel discussions focused on the theme Ugandan writing across genres and forms such as fiction, children’s books, plays, poetry, short story and memoir. Our writing has grown and evolved and should therefore be celebrated in its entirety!
Panelists included Patricia Rutiba, Zziwa Zinabala, Martha Kyoshaba Twinamasiko, Ssebo Lule, Christine Butegwa and Dilman Dila and the moderators were David Kangye and Crystal Rutangye-Bazirake. We also enjoyed some amazing poetry performances by Chris Bahizi, Mercy Geno, Rap Poet, Authentic SQ, Devis the Poet, Yvonne Enon, Loic Ekinga, Nze Nsubuga and Mitch. Last but not least was DJ Decay with her set full of good vibes.
There was a kids corner to foster and support children’s reading culture. For this, we partnered with Ibua Publishing for book readings, colouring and storytelling. And what is a Christmas book fair without vendors? Of course there were loads of books on sale by Ugandan authors and beyond. We were happy host FEMRITE, Ibua Publishing, Kitara Nation, African Writers Trust and Oasis Book Project as book vendors.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
