GZK Information Futures Series 2026

Information Futures 2026 is a virtual dialogue series exploring the future of libraries, archives, and information work in Uganda through conversation, reflection, and shared practice.

Objectives of the Information Futures Series

The primary aim of the series is to bring together information professionals working in libraries, archives and information institutions to engage with topical issues affecting their professional practice and reflect on a future they would like to see. To achieve this aim, the series will pursue the following objectives :

Facilitate peer-to-peer exchange – Provide a platform for information professionals to share experiences, insights, and innovative practices across institutions and specializations.
Promote discussion on emerging issues – Encourage reflection and dialogue on trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the future of information management, access, and preservation.
Support professional development – Enable participants to gain knowledge, perspectives, and ideas that can inform and enhance their day-to-day practice.
Foster a collective vision – Encourage the community to collectively imagine and work toward a realistic and constructive vision for the future of information work.

The series is intended for the following demographics:

Academics and educators in the fields of library, archive, and information science and the information work sector in general.
Students at all levels studying Library and Information Science (LIS), Records and Archives Management (RAM), and related disciplines.
Practicing and former professionals working in libraries, archives, and other information institutions.
Organisations involved in library services, as well as archives and information management.
Policymakers and government representatives who develop or influence policies affecting libraries, archives, knowledge institutions, and the broader information ecosystem.

Implementation

The Information Futures Series will combine six online sessions with one in-person networking event to maximize participation and engagement across the information sector.

Delivered via Zoom at regular monthly intervals.
A total of six sessions with 2 sessions focused on archivists ; 3 sessions focused on librarians; one joint session across the specialisations
Sessions will feature case studies or lightning talks, panel or round table discussions
